The Real Effective Exchange Rate index (REER) is defined as the observed nominal exchange rate, multiplied by the ratio between relevant external inflation and the CPI. The external inflation in the REER is computed with the dollar-denominated WPIs (or CPI, if WPI is not available) of the main trading partners, weighted by the relative importance of imports and exports—excluding crude oil and copper— between Chile and each of them.
